Elastomeric Connectors & Their Applications
Elastomeric connectors are well-suited for applications where shock, vibration, and environmental stress make traditional interconnect methods unreliable. In these conditions, solder joints and mechanical connectors can fatigue, crack, or lose consistency over time.
Elastomeric connectors create a compliant, compression-based interface. Multiple conductive paths within the elastomer establish contact across the mating surfaces, conforming to minor irregularities and maintaining a stable electrical connection. This gasket-like behavior improves both electrical reliability and mechanical tolerance.
Silicone-based materials are used for their long-term stability, including resistance to aging, temperature variation, and chemical exposure. These properties make elastomeric connectors particularly effective in demanding environments where consistent performance is required.
Installation is straightforward. Connectors are typically retained through compression using a simple clamping mechanism, eliminating soldering and reducing assembly time and complexity. This also allows for easier serviceability and replacement in the field.
